We Have a Roller!
On Sunday, Brax rolled over from his back to his stomach once and hasn't since then. He got stuck and didn't know quite what to do. However, today, he rolled over from his stomach to his back every time we put him on his stomach. I am so proud of my baby! Last week, the pediatrician said he would be behind because of his heart surgery and to expect him to roll over in two months. Well, Brax proved him wrong! Here's a video of one of the rolls from today along with a little toot from B.

Brax and His Girlfriend
Here is Brax and his girlfriend, Sloane. We don't know many girls close to Brax's age so he will have to have an older girlfriend. She's very cute and smitten with Brax.
The Burnfins Visit
My friend, Kirsten, and her husband and daughter came to visit for the weekend. Her daughter, Sloane, just turned 2 years old. She was quite fun and made me really excited thinking about Brax developing more of a personality and being able to do activities. Sloane goes swimming once a week with Kirsten's friend who has two boys in Kansas City. The younger son's name is Ty. He is about three months older than Brax so the entire weekend Sloane referred to Brax as Ty. I couldn't believe I even called him Ty a few times when I was talking to her. She was very sweet to him even if she renamed him for a few days.
They arrived late Friday night. We let the kids stay up a little late, and Brax was exhausted by the time he went to bed an hour later than normal. Then, on Saturday, we went to Heritage Square which is a small amusement park more for younger kids that has an alpine slide. Sloane went on a few rides while Brax was only able to ride the merry-go-round with me. Everyone, but Brax, made a trip down the alpine slide. This was the first time I had been down an alpine slide, and I thought it was quite fun. After the amusement park, we went and had sandwiches in downtown Golden.
When we returned home, there was quite a rainstorm which is nice since we are in a drought. We grilled out. Then, Kirsten and I went out downtown to a few bars while the men babysat. It was the first time we had been out together before she was pregnant- 3 years! My how times have changed! The next day it was the guys turn, and they went golfing. We took the kids to breakfast and Target.
It was so nice to see them and have some company for the weekend!

Five Months
Wow, I cannot believe you are five months old already!
Notes from month five:
You weigh 11 pounds 6 ounces. You are 24.5 inches long. You are still little for your age, but you gained 2 pounds since your surgery which is great!
You spent the first week of the month in the hospital recovering from heart surgery. We took turns spending the night with you so you were never alone in the hospital.
You love to suck on your hands, rings, and blankets.
You drool so much. Your outfits are often soaked with your spit in the front.
You had to be on a fat free diet which was a combination of fat free breast milk and fat free formula. This made you constipated.
You laugh and smile often. We love making you laugh. Sometimes, when I laugh at you, you laugh back hysterically for awhile. It is very entertaining!
You do not take naps very well. You often sleep only for about 30-40 minutes at a time with the occasional longer nap.
We are working on a schedule. All we have started is a bedtime routine of a bath, lotion massage, and books. We start the bedtime routine at 8:00, and you are usually asleep around 8:30. Then, you get up at 2 and 5 to eat. You are up around 8 for the day.
You do not like tummy time. You can't hold up your head alone, yet, but you are getting much better at it.
We celebrated Daddy's birthday by going shopping and out to eat. You got out of the hospital the morning of his birthday.
We drove to Estes Park for a day.
We went to a park concert and brought a picnic at the Four Mile Historic Park. It's nice to be able to go more places with you.
We watched fireworks.
Kyle, Kirsten, and Sloane came to visit.
You try to hold your bottle sometimes when you drink it.
You went for your first swim in a baby pool in our backyard.
It is so fun to see your personality develop. When we go somewhere new, you are quite serious taking everything in.
You stare at ceiling fans.
You don't cry very often and mainly only when you are tired.
We love you so so much!

Pool Time
We bought a little blow up pool for the backyard. Here Brax is in his swimsuit for the first time and in a pool for the first time. He was a little fussy before I put him in the pool, but seemed to like the pool. He was pretty serious taking everything in and kicked his legs a few times. It will be fun to go swimming with him in my parents bigger pool at their house in a few weeks.

Braxton the Bear
Our neighbors across the street have a three year old boy named Daxton. When Braxton was first born, they came to visit and bring us food. The next day, Daxton went to his grandma's house, and she gave him a stuffed bear. Daxton decided to name his bear, "Braxton." These are the only two boys on our end of the street, and they have rhyming names. Here is a picture of Braxton, Braxton the Bear, and Daxton!
Fourth of July
For the Fourth of July, we walked down the path by our house to watch the fireworks. This was actually on the night of the 3rd. We walked with a few other neighbors and found a grassy spot that wasn't too close to the fireworks. It was a great view, and the weather was perfect. Brax enjoyed just laying on our blanket before the show. When the first firework went off, it was so loud that I grabbed Brax because I thought he would cry, but he was very indifferent to the noise and the fireworks. At one point, he was more interested on a flash of a camera near us. It was fun holding him and watching his first fireworks show together.
Then, for the 4th, we walked across the street to our neighbor's house for a bbq. There was great food, and it was nice to be able to talk to our neighbors and get to know them better. Brax was the perfect baby. He was happy the entire time and took a little nap without crying before he went to sleep. He was so smiley with everyone and did great sitting on a stranger's lap for the first time. Our neighbors are expecting twins, and I think he definitely gave them the wrong impression of what a baby is like most of the time when first born! Everyone just loved looking at him and thought he was precious.
It's a good thing I had two Fourth of July outfits for him since we had two events!

Estes Park
We decided to take a day trip and visit Estes Park. We left in the morning. When we got to Estes Park, we decided to get some sandwiches at Subway and drive up a road to the Continental Divide. It was a very pretty scenic drive. We stopped a few times along the way to take some pictures. Brax and I got out for the first two stops. However, it was so windy the higher we drove so we stayed in the car at the top. When we reached the Continental Divide, we turned around and made the drive back home. I had never been so it was something to check off my Colorado list. Brax did a great job in the car which was good practice for our drive to Nebraska in a few weeks although it will be nicer when he's a bit older so we can get out and walk around more. Overall, a nice day as a family!
